There have been 5 wars between India and Pakistan in the past and India has always succeded at all times. But people only know about the wins which are decorated in the history books. What is neglected in the books is what all was lost in getting these wins. are the stories of bravery and selfless service by our soldiers.
Here are 5 such heroes of war:
1. Major General Ian Cardozo
He belonged to 5 Gorkha Rifles. During the 1971 war, he tragically stepped on a landmine and he lost a leg. but the loss of a leg was not sufficient to stop him and he fought with many new soldiers despite the pain.
2. Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal
He was an example of bravery in the battle of Basantar in 1971. Even though he was in a different squad he retaliated against the counterattack of Pakistan at Jarpal and successfully captured their infantry.
3. Major Hoshiar Singh
He is popularly known for his efforts for the country during the 1971 war. He was ordered to make a bridgehead over the Basantar River which was full of land mines and was under full protection of the Pakistani army. Major Singh caused many casualties of Pakistani Soldiers even though he was badly injured and did not leave until a cease-fire was ordered.
4. Lance Naik Albert Ekka
He played a very important role in getting the win for India in the Battle of Hilli of Bogra and he was awarded the Param Vir Chakra for his bravery.
5. Flying Officer Nirmaljit Singh Sekhon
He was another holder of the Param Vir Chakra for 1971 war. He set an example of bravery while defending the Srinagar Airbase against PAF air raid. He is also the only member of IAF who has a Param Vir Chakra.
