A woman, in order to save her child, fought leopard barehanded in Pimpri Chinchwad, Pune, after the toddler was attacked in his sleep, by the leopard.
20 years old Deepali Mali and his husband Dilip were asleep beside their son Dhyaneshwar outside their home when the incident took place. According to reports, around 1:30am, Deepali woke up to the growling of the animal and saw her son’s head being captured into the animal’s jaw. In order to save her son from the man-eater, she started hitting the animal with her hands which resulted in leopard freeing the toddler, and instead started attacking Deepali. She raised an alarm, soon after which, the animal ran away in the wild. The baby was left injured around the neck and his face.
Forest officer Vishal Adhagele said, “We have been urging the villagers not to sleep in the open and also to keep their domestic animals indoors to avert any leopard attack.”
