A Datsun Go car caught fire on Akhshardham flyover in east Delhi on Sunday around 6:30 p.m. The wife and two kids of the driver, Upender Mishra got killed in the fire. The deceased were 34-year-old Anjana, 5-year-old Nicky and Riddhi of 2 years of age. The 3-year-old daughter, Siddhi and Upender escaped the fire.

Leakage in the CNG kit is said to be the cause of the fire as per a preliminary investigation. Police will make final comments after the completion of the investigation.

Mishra noticed a spark in the bonnet of the car and stopped to check the spark following which a huge fire broke out from the back of the car. He grabbed his daughter Siddhi. The wife could not get out in time and was caught in fire with her two daughters.

No one came to help the family on that busy road even though Upender cried for help. A passerby finally stopped but it was too late to save the family. The Firefighters arrived at the scene after receiving a call. The bodies were burnt so much that they could not be identified and were shifted to the mortuary of Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital.

“I took a U-turn and came on this road to show my family the temple. It seems death pulled us on this side. I have lost my family.” Said Upender Mishra. The family went out on a weekend trip to Kalkaji Temple.

Mishra is a driver for a second-hand car company and bought the car from the company itself. The CNG Kit was installed by the manufacturer.

A case has been filed under section 304A of the IPC.
