Two men were allegedly tortured to death in Police custody of Sitamarhi in Bihar on March 7. The two men were picked up in a case of stealing a bike and murder of the owner of the bike. When the bodies were being washed for burial the relatives found wounds of hammered nails on their bodies which can also be seen in the Photos and Video clips taken by the families.
There were marks of hammered nails on their thighs, soles and wrists and their legs were severely injured.
FIR has been filed against the policemen and 5 of them have been suspended. Gupteshwar Pandey, Director General of Police, Bihar, confirmed that it was a custodial death while calling it unacceptable. “We suspended five policemen including Chandra Bhushan Singh, the officer-in-charge of Dumra police station, in Sitamarhi. They will also face departmental action. If they do not surrender, they can even face dismissal. We have issued a show-cause notice to Sitamarhi SP who has been transferred.” Added the DG police.
The two men who were picked up by police on 6th of March from Ramidha Village were Gufran Alam (30) and Taslim Ansari (32). The family of the two reached the Police station around at 5 pm on the 6th of March. Gufran’s father-in-law Mohammed Ayub Alab, Said, “We saw only two women constables. When we asked about Gufran and Taslim, they sent us to Sadar Hospital. There, we were told that both were dead and their postmortem had been conducted. We were not allowed to see the bodies. The bodies were handed over to us the next day.”
Gufran came back to India from Qatar where he used to work as an electrician and was about to leave for Doha but stopped as his son joined a school that year.
